As a longtime Sukhumvit resident, I like to consider myself as pretty tolerant and adaptable.
I take traffic in stride. I can feign ignorance and bliss when a fat, sweaty, hairy farang beside me is stinkin' up the whole BTS car. And yes, I CAN sit sidesaddle on the back of a motorcycle in tight skirt and high heels while counting loose change/sending SMS/applying lipstick~!!
But the arrival of the intrusive, noisy, mightily annoying "Hello Bangkok" advertising trucks with HUUUGE-ass TV screens mounted on the back is reeeeally testi
ng my patience (and the decibel limit of my eardrums... PLUS giving me premature wrinkles).
I first encountered these intolerable vehicles one morning a few weeks ago while in a TAXI.
Since then, I've been regularly bothered, attacked and molested on Sukhumvit Road by these monstrous things blasting various ads and yappy small talks which I'm sure add absolutely NOTHING to the well-being and happiness (not to mention health) of the good people of Sukhumvit.
It's not as if Sukhumvit needs MORE ads. Hell, we already got billboards all over the place. We get harassed by people forcing flyers and pamphlets into our hands. Even BTS cars have TV screens and are splattered with ads INSIDE AND OUTSIDE~!!

But these "Hello Bangkok" trucks really take the cake (or perhaps I should say "rotten plamuek" instead). I mean, they're just so damn constantly LOUD. And so... soooo... B-R-I-G-H-T. Oh sure, as a city girl I am fully accustomed to bright city lights... but not THIS close to the ground, and not THIS gigantic size.
I swear, it's just a matter of time when one crazed (and fed-up) person will forcefully eliminate these things.
I understand that "Hello Bangkok" wants to advertise. I mean, who doesn't wanna advertise in this capitalist world? But bugging the hell out of commuters and pedestrians sure ain't the way to do it.
I am th
erefore declaring that I am NOT gonna buy ANYTHING that is advertized on those hell-on-wheels "Hello Bangkok" trucks~!!
Hmm, but waitaminit... I've always purposely tried to ignore them annoying trucks, so actually, I don't even KNOW what ads are running on the trucks...
So now this means I'm gonna have to actually pay MORE attention to the ads in order to be able to distinguish which ads are being shown...
OH THE IRONY~!!
