Blog EntryPLEASE HELP: missing dog MILLYMar 12, '08 3:53 PM
for everyone
Y'all know I have a soft spot for critters... especially those who are in need.

I got an email from Billie Manshall of SCAD (Soi Cats and Dogs) - a non-profit organization that helps strays in Bangkok about a farang woman named Laura who lost her beloved pooch Milly.

To: Billie Manshall

Billie,

I am getting quite desperate.........Milly jumped from my arms in panic when I attempted to take her to the Animal Hospital on Saturday at 19:00hrs. She ran like the wind in spite of her infected front paw into Thonglor.

Jenny and another friend helped me walk the sois 55 and 53 but we couldn't find her. I was happy she was not run over.........we stopped looking at midnight. Our daily search begins at 6:00 with bicycles, walks and cars. Even our 70 year old gardener went on his bike on his day off to search for Milly!

We've put posters along soi 53, 55 and 63. On Monday morning my eldest son (29) saw Milly coming out of our office's carpark at 7:00 in the morning. He got out of the car and tried to call her but she ran away in fright. Our sons don't live with us so Milly wouldn't have known Derek very well.

Lots of guards and motorcycle taxi drivers remember Milly and the big farang running early on Monday.....but she hasn't been spotted since.

Can you help? Perhaps spreading Milly's photograph? I'm not sure what else can be done but Milly seems to be getting closer to Moo Baan Panya, soi Onnut (77) where we live.

Best wishes,
Laura

P.S. Laura says, "
If one can corner Milly into an enclosure and close a gate, fine, but I don't think anyone will be able to catch her unless her paw is really bad and she can't run. Remember, when well, Milly runs like the wind!

I think it would be better if you call me and we'll be there like a shot."

You would be better putting this in notes at Martini SSS. Nearly 800 members and many of them in Bangers.

I wish bloody SS would bung this up at MartiniThai where it might just help. I bet she is out getting her fingernails painted or something equally important. Poor wee Millie has prolly been served up in some Korean restaurant by now. *grrr*

* GULPS * Don't tell me Filipinos also eat dogs, as the Cap has not-so-subtly pointed out about the Koreans~!! Heeee....

By the way, Cap... I got a Korean friend who told me that it's not so common to eat dog meat in Korean anymore... "only in the mountains", she claims...

QUITE CLOSE... I was actually getting a hair treatment, not getting my nails done~!! (An addicted blogger who vigorously pounds the keyboard like me can no longer have meticulously painted talons anymore~ BUT it's a small price to pay tee-hee~!!)

Tell that to Millie.

I was just on a motorcycle in Sukhumvit 53 and thought I saw a dog who looked like Millie~!! But we were going by sooo fast I couldn't be sure... dammit, I'm gettin' all paranoid now... starting to see black n' white doggies (real and imaginary) everywhere I turn...

exactly but there's a law now that bans the eating of dog meat, although of course, there will still be a few who will not follow that.

Some people would say what's the big deal, since we already eat other animals (cows, chickens, pigs) anyway, so why not dogs?
I dunno though... I guess many people have an emotional connection to dogs since they can be trained and live alongside humans as "companions"... I myself am a total SUCKA when it comes to doggies, though I ain't no vegetarian~!!

Here's another pic of Milly, just in case:

An update about Milly (Laura's email):

Today at 11:30 I had a call from a K Supot saying that they had spotted Milly in soi Pridi 3 (71) Sukhumvit. We rushed to the scene only to be told that the motorcycle taxi drivers had tried to catch her and she run away CROSSING SUKHUMVIT towards Rama IV and into an empty building. Milly was hit by a car but not fatally as she kept on running. Unfortunately, she's now on the wrong side of Sukhumvit Rd!

Although three of us kept walking the streets, we couldn't find her. I'll go early tomorrow morning before daybreak and walk around that area.

Many thanks for your continued help!

Best wishes,
Laura

At least we know Milly's still alive and around, contrary to what the Cap's been suggesting ha ha ha~~
With that infected front paw and the newest encounter with a car, I hope she'll start to REALLY missing home and Laura.
