Photo AlbumGorgeous FACE in Sukhumvit~!!Jan 21, '08 2:52 PM
for everyone

THIS is the place you take your guests/lover(s)/biz associates to if you wanna impress and send them to a NIRVANA bathed in mysterious golden lights, decorated with precious antiques and surrounded at all sides with expensive teak~!! Oh, and the food ain't half bad either~!!

The FACE in Sukhumvit 38 is built like a traditional Thai compound house for the wealthy.

Anybody who has visited the Jim Thompson House (pictured right and below) would notice that a Thai traditional compound house is usually raised (to avoid the seasonal floods) and has an open-plan feel (which serves to let air circulate, thus keeping the rooms cool). Sometimes there's an open space which connects all the different rooms in the middle of the compound.

All within one glorious compound, the FACE houses a Thai restaurant called Lan Na Thai, a northern Indian restaurant called Hazara, a (nameless) spa, a Face Bar, a function hall called Buddha Hall, and a pastry shop and cafe named Visage (which also means "face" in French), led by world renowned pastry chef and chocolatier Eric Perez (who used to work for the French Embassy and the Ritz in washington D.C. PLUS the Clintons) - oh be still my heart~!!

The traditional Thai architecture is made of teak, sprinkled with priceless antiques from various Asian countries (China, Indonesia, Thailand, Burma). Don't forget to check out the seductive Chinese opium beds in the Face Bar; perfect for lounging with a glass of wine after dinner in your finest attire~!!

The first thing that greets you at the entrance is a staircase going up dimly lit by candles (yea, it can be quite a challenge if you're wearing high-heels~!! But hey~~ what better excuse to let your partner hold your hand and guide you * swooon *~!!). You'll feel like you've been transported to another time and place (perhaps when Sukhumvit Road had less traffic and even less foreigners?? Hee hee hee...).

Actually, I've been to the FACE several times, but taking pictures at such a dimly lit place was always a challenge (I didn't wanna use flash because the flash kinda makes everything look flat - UGH - totally ruining the mystical mood~!!). But this time, I think I've succeeded in striking that delicate balance between light and darkness~!!

So without further ado, I'll let the pics do all the talking~!!

P.S. If you're planning to find out by yourself why I'm making such a fuss over the FACE, don't forget to bring LOTSA cash (or better yet, your Platinum card~!!)

P.P.S. The FACE can also be found in Shanghai, Beijing and Jakarta.

Oyea it was like heaven~!! The coconut ice cream and mango sorbet were orgasmic too~!!

I dunno how old the art is... I'm not into collecting antiques (I prefer NEW things hahaha) but I can appreciate them... They do look pretty ancient to me, tho~!!

You wouldn't believe the lengths that I have had to go to to get it made without her knowing. I even had to host this pic elsewhere and rename it. She keeps on talking about her girlfriends ring. *hint hint*.... I just say...."What ring teerak?"
