It's easy to be intimidated by Beccofino. First you got the Italian sounding moniker. Then there's the art deco external façade, dim lighting and the fact that it's situated in Thonglo, Sukhumvit's hippest and chicest soi. And oh my~ it's actually got an authentic, meaty Italian chef named Angelo Rottoli~!!
But don't be discouraged. You can still experience Beccofino's "hi-so" food, service and ambience if you go for its Buffet Lunch Set~!!
For 350 baht++, you can stuff your face silly from noon 'til 2:30 pm with pasta, cold cuts, seafood, salads, breads, soup and yes, even dessert PLUS coffee or tea~!!
Since this is an all-you-can-eat deal, here's the best ATTACK PLAN:
Start with the warm breads first. You can enjoy all of 'em either with or without butter. If you're a bread fiend, you can even ask for more~!!
Next, proceed to the buffet table for your appetizers (pictured). Try a little bit of everything - different kinds of ham, finger food, cheeses, seafood (shrimps, clams, salmon), mushrooms, asparagus and veggies (which you can mix to make a salad).
*NOTE: the buffet table is open 'til 2:30 pm, so don't worry, you can come back later~!!
If you're done with the appetizers, motion the waitress to bring the soup. Beccofino likes to rotate its menu, so ask your waitress for the day's choices. In this particular day, I decided to go with the pumpkin soup, and I was happy with my choice. It was creamy, smooth and not too watery.
After you've licked your soup bowl clean, it's time for the main course (PASTA~!!). With this, you can also choose which sauce you want: vongole, meat sauce or carbonara. Since I am a seafood fan, I went with vongole; and again, I wasn't disappointed. It was a little bit spicy and lightly fragranced with basil leaves. I also liked that I was given A LOT of clams~!!
Probably by this time you'll be quite stuffed already (especially if you've gone back to the buffet table several times - like what I did). But fear not, it's only dessert left, and you can choose from several ice creams and sherbets available. I decided to go with lime sherbet, and found its tangy, slightly sour taste a great foil to the rich meal.
And now it's time to settle your (most probably bulging) stomach with either coffee or tea~!!
I could see that everything was thought of very carefully - though the Buffet Lunch Set's price is considered cheaper than its usual price tags, nothing else was different: the fancy china, heavy European-inspired cutlery and crisp table linens were all identical to my previous experiences in Beccofino.
The service was also consistent - very attentive, without being overly sticky. The manager even came to chat and made sure everything was OK.
P.S. My fellow customers were a mix of hi-so Thais and "ladies who lunch" (mostly Japanese), so you should at least look presentable before setting foot here.
